STEELTON, PA − May 20, 2025 − Today, Senator Kim announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has awarded $446,363 to the Steelton-Highspire School District for solar upgrades at Steelton-Highspire Elementary School. The grant, awarded through the Solar for Schools program, will support the installation of solar energy infrastructure to reduce energy costs and advance sustainability initiatives within the district.
The Steelton-Highspire School District has established itself as a regional leader in energy efficiency and sustainability efforts. This latest solar installation builds upon previous district-wide investments in renewable energy infrastructure, positioning the district as a model for sustainable practices in educational facilities.
“Steelton-Highspire has consistently demonstrated forward-thinking approaches to energy management,” Senator Kim said. “Their dedication to implementing sustainable solutions benefits not only their budget but also prepares students to become environmentally-conscious leaders who understand the critical importance of renewable energy. I am proud of their example and applaud this much deserved recognition.”
“This is a win for our students, our schools, and our future,” said Representative Dave Madsen. “By investing in solar energy, Steelton-Highspire School District is not only cutting costs—it’s teaching the next generation about sustainability, innovation, and self-reliance. I’m proud to support initiatives that move our communities forward and create real opportunity for our kids.
The Solar for Schools grant program, administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, supports Pennsylvania schools in transitioning to clean, renewable energy sources. These investments help school districts reduce long-term energy costs while decreasing their carbon footprint.
