HARRISBURG, PADecember 9, 2025 − Senator Patty Kim is encouraging constituents to attend the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s (PUC) upcoming hearing at the Keystone Building in Harrisburg on Wednesday, December 10, at 6 p.m. to gather public testimony on the proposed rate increases by PPL Electric.

PPL Electric Utilities has requested an overall annual base rate increase of $356.3 million per year (33.4%). As proposed, the total monthly bill for a residential customer using 918 kilowatt-hours of electricity would increase from $177.01 to $189.40 – a 7% monthly bill increase.

“I do acknowledge the pressures PPL is facing to provide electricity to an ever-increasing number of large load customers such as data centers. However, the increased costs that electric utilities are incurring because of this should not be financed on the backs of the residential customer base,” said Senator Kim. “I am particularly concerned that the requested rate increase may result in unjust and unreasonable rates that would impose severe hardship on low- and moderate-income residential households, which face disproportionately high energy costs compared to higher income households.”

Hearing address:

Keystone Building, Hearing Room #1
400 North Street
